YouTube Premium introduces new features with higher quality video and more
SAN FRANCISCO, April 11 (IANS) Google-owned YouTube has introduced a number of new features for users of the premium service, including higher-quality video for web and iOS users, support for watching FaceTime videos through Apple’s SharePlay and other controls for list management. In the coming weeks, the company will launch a bitrate-enhanced version with 1080p HD video quality starting on iOS (and a web experience coming soon too) to provide a higher video quality experience for its premium members.
“While all users will still have access to 1080p, this improved 1080p quality setting will look crisper and sharper, especially for videos with a lot of detail and motion,” YouTube said in a blog post.
For users who want to move from one video to another, the company has introduced a feature that will provide more control over their queue.
“Today, for premium members, we’re expanding the queue to phones and tablets, giving you complete control over what you watch,” the company said.
Moreover, the company has made the ‘sharing experience’ easier while watching YouTube videos.
With Meet Live Sharing on Android devices, Premium members can host Google Meet sessions where all attendees, regardless of whether they’re Premium or Free, can watch YouTube videos together.
In the coming weeks, the company will also roll out this experience to FaceTime users on iOS via SharePlay.
Another feature introduced by the video-sharing platform will allow users to return to YouTube across devices, that is, Premium members can now continue watching videos wherever they left off previously even while switching between devices, allowing them to return again without a single interruption.
The feature is now available on Android, iOS, and Web.
Finally, the company has introduced a feature that will keep the YouTube experience going even when users are offline.
The company stated “With Smart Downloads, while you’re connected to Wi-Fi, we automatically add recommended videos directly to your library, ready for offline viewing”.
This feature will allow users to watch videos whenever and wherever they want, while also discovering new content without having to search.
