They played chess, like Marshal Piłsudski
Over a hundred chess players took part in the Independence Chess Tournament in Starachowice.
The competition took place in the Cooperative Cultural Center and was organized by the Gambit Chess Club. Its president, Roman Kaput, emphasizes that every sports event is a good way to celebrate important holidays:
– We have been organizing the chess tournament for 16 years, and after us, many other clubs from our voivodeship took up this idea. We also organize similar events on other holidays, e.g. the anniversary of the outbreak of the January Uprising, he adds.
The age of the player does not matter when competing on the chessboard.
– The oldest participant is 84 years old, the youngest is five years old, but this does not interfere with the conduct of the competition at all, it adds diversity and allows you to improve your skills – says Roman Kaput.
Participants received mugs with the image of Marshal Józef Piłsudski playing chess, because – as the organizers remind us – he was a fan of this game.
