Katarzyna Piter and Anastasia Detiuc reached the quarterfinals of the WTA doubles tournament in Guangzhou. The Polish-Czech pair defeated Lucia Bronzetti and Xiyu Wang, players from the top 100 of the WTA ranking, 6:4, 6:3.
For Katarzyna Piter, this is another successful performance in doubles competitions this season. At the end of July, together with Weronika Falkowska, they played in the doubles final at the WTA 250 tournament in Warsaw. Then the Polish women lost 4:6, 4:6 to Heather Watson and Yanina Wickmayer. In Kozerki, she reached the quarterfinals.

On Monday, Piter started competing at the WTA 250 tournament on hard courts in Guangzhou, China. In the doubles match of the 1/8 finals, the 32-year-old, who played with the Czech Anastasia Detiuc, defeated the favorites – Lucia Bronzetti and Xiyu Wang.
Tennis players not classified in the WTA singles ranking needed just over 78 minutes to win. This is quite a surprise considering that both Bronzetti and Wang are in the WTA singles top 100. They rank 60th and 88th, respectively.

The match ultimately ended with Piter and Detiuc winning 6:4, 6:3. The Polish and Czech women were also better than their rivals in terms of statistics. They did not make a single service error and were also more effective in the first serve and returns.
Piter and Detiuc will face the winners of the Jodie Burrage/Rebeka Masarova – En Shuo Liang/Yue Yuan match in the quarterfinals. The match is scheduled for Wednesday, September 20, and the opponents will be announced the day before.
