The burden of debt drives a person to end his life in UP

Lucknow, April 7 (IANS) A 26-year-old man ended his life by committing suicide after being publicly humiliated for not returning a loan.
The deceased has been identified as Amrendra Singh Deepak. He had taken money from a Shiv murti verma and was being bullied by the latter for not paying him back.
A case of abetting suicide was registered against the moneylender after the sister of the deceased Pooja Verma filed a case.
“Deepak’s business was going through a tough time and so he couldn’t pay Verma on the promised time. Verma was putting pressure on Deepak and he also lost Deepak’s bike after publicly humiliating him.”
The complainant also said that Verma called Deepak in the afternoon and shouted at him. We heard him screaming and threatening to shoot him. Deepak was disturbed by this and entered a room in the house and hanged himself after locking the doors from the inside.”
The victim’s sister said that she and her family had no idea that Deepak would end his life.
We kept knocking on the doors, but he wouldn’t open. Then we broke down the doors and found him hanging from the ceiling with a dupatta around his neck.”
SHO, Gosaiganj, Deepak Kumar, said that an FIR of instigation to commit suicide has been registered against the accused and an investigation is underway.
So far, he said, they learned through the family that the deceased had taken about Rs 30 lakh as a loan.
