Teacher fraud: CBI tracks multiple properties as Trinamool MLA

KOLKATA, April 15 (IANS) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which has been conducting a marathon raid on the premises of Trinamool Congress MLA Jiban Krishna Saha since Friday afternoon in connection with the multi-crore teacher recruitment scam in West Bengal, has tracked several high-value properties Owned by Saha and his family.

What surprised CBI is that the majority of these high-value properties owned by Saha and his family members are located in Birbhum district, while Saha is a Trinamool legislator from Parwan constituency in his home district of Murshidabad.

The latest development raised the issue of Saha’s possible connections to the cattle smuggling scam, given that Birbhum was the center of the cattle smuggling operation, as the ruling district chief of Birbhum, Anuprata Mondal, was already in judicial custody.

The sources said that Murshidabad, being a border area, is closely related to the cattle smuggling scam as smuggled cows were sent from various livestock trading posts in Birbhum to Bangladesh across the Murshidabad border.

Properties owned by Saha and his family members include land in prime areas of Bolpur Santiniketan; land, cold stores, and an oil mill within the Sainthia municipal area; and a number of apartments in the Santiniketan Development Trust – all in Birbhum.

The research process by the CBI is still ongoing. The agency questioned Saha about the sources of funds for the purchase of real estate.

Meanwhile, the FBI has yet to trace Saha’s two cell phones, which he dumped in a pond near his home on Friday night.
