Sachin Tendulkar pens a warm note about his son, Arjun’s IPL debut

MUMBAI, April 17 (IANS) Legendary Sachin Tendulkar wrote a warm note after his son Arjun made his IPL debut on Sunday for Mumbai Indians against Kolkata Knight Riders at Wankhede Stadium, here.
Arjun became the first son to play for the same Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise that his father, Sachin Tendulkar, had represented for many years.
Opening the bowling, left arm Tailor conceded five runs in his first over. He made a strong lbw appeal against Jagadeesan but it was rejected by the umpire as it looked like the ball was going to go over the stumps.
On his second over, he was kept off the backside of the boundary by KKR’s Venkatesh Iyer, who then hit the following delivery of a errant six-putt wide long.
In the end, Arjun returned with figures of 0/17 in a match that ended in a five-wicket victory for Mumbai, despite KKR’s Venkatesh Iyer smashing a century.
“Arjun, today you have taken another important step in your journey as a cricketer. As your father, someone who loves you and is passionate about the game, I know that you will continue to give the game the respect it deserves and the game will come back to you.”
“You worked so hard to get here, and I’m sure you will continue to do so. This is the beginning of a beautiful journey. I wish you all the best.
The 23-year-old Arjun has been with the Mumbai Indians for the past two years. He was selected for auction in 2021 but had to withdraw due to an injury. He was also selected for the 2022 auction but did not feature in a single match last year.
He got his chance on Sunday with his dad, Sachin, at the Indians’ hideout in Mumbai.
Arjun, who played age group cricket for Mumbai and made his T20 debut in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2020-21 and had earlier last year transferred to Goa Alliance and made his debut for the Ranji Trophy against Rajasthan in an Elite Division match at Purvorim in December 2022.
