Rhett joins the Indian Hockey Team as an Analytical Coach
NEW DELHI, April 7 (IANS) India’s Hockey Team announced Friday that Rhett Halkett and Alan Tan will join the support staff of the Indian men’s hockey team in their new roles as Analytical Coach and Scientific Advisor respectively.
The Hockey India Board of Directors earlier announced that Craig Fulton is the new coach for the men’s hockey team.
Hockey India also announced that the former coach of the Japanese women’s hockey team, Anthony Vare, will serve as the analytical coach for the Indian women’s hockey team.
A former South African international, Ritt earned 155 caps between 2010 and 2018. In 2020, Ritt joined the Dutch women’s hockey team as an assistant coach. In his one-year tenure, he was part of the support team during the 2020-21 FIH Women’s Pro League, European Championships and Tokyo Olympics. In 2022, Rhett took on the role of assistant coach of the Scottish men’s hockey team and also led the Scottish men’s under-21 hockey team as head coach.
Alan Tan has over 10.5 years experience working as a Strength and Conditioning Coach at the New South Wales Institute of Sport from January 2011 – September 2021. He also held the position of National Development Team Program Manager at Wheelchair Rugby Australia from August 2021 to March 2023. Alan has worked as a teacher at Lab and Unit Resident for Undergraduate Exercise and Sport Science at University of Technology Sydney from September 2021 to March 2023, before taking up the position of Senior Strength and Conditioning Coach for Tennis Australia at the Sydney Training Center from November 2022 to March 2023.
Meanwhile, Anthony Vare took on the Analytical Coach role backed by a three-year stint as Assistant Coach for ACT Hockey and Hockey Australia between December 2008 and 2011.
