Mani Ratnam to support the Kerala Film Tourism Project to showcase key locations

Thiruvananthapuram, July 11 (IANS) As part of the promotion of tourist spots in Kerala that have been featured in many films, filmmaker Mani Ratnam has extended his support to the efforts of the Tourism Department which he named Kerala Tourism Cinema Project.
On Tuesday in a meeting with PA Tourism Minister Mohd Rias, Mani Ratnam promised to endorse the sites which left a deep impression on people’s minds after their box office debut.
To begin with, Mani Ratnam will be taking part in a performance planned at Bekal Fort in Kasaragod district, where thrilling scenes from his movie ‘Bombay’ have been shot.
Through its cinematic tourism initiative, Kerala aims to attract tourists to these locations.
Mani Ratnam deeply appreciated the groundbreaking project along with remembering the stunning landscapes of Kerala which were the locations for a number of his films, especially for the song sequences.
Rias, who is the son-in-law of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, said Mani Ratnam’s support and presence would be a huge boost for the cinema tourism project.
Bekal Fort in Kasaragod, which was featured in the movie ‘Bombay’, starring Aravind Swamy and Manisha Koirala, is also included in the project. This website also featured his Malayalam movie Unaroo. For the launch of this project, he will be present at Bekal Fort with the actors in ‘Bombay’.
