Loan application harassment: Engineering student commits suicide in Beluru

BENGALURU, July 12 (IANS) Even after assurances from the Karnataka state Congress government to take action against loan applications for harassment, an engineering student allegedly committed suicide by allegedly being unable to withstand the pressure exerted by the loan application crew in Bengaluru.

The deceased has been identified as Tejas, a mechanical engineering student at Niti Meenakshi College. Tejas, who was excellent in his class, was doing his sixth semester.

A resident of HMT Layout near Jalahalli, Tejas took a loan of Rs 40,000 to his friend Mahesh a year before applying for a loan. Since he was unable to repay the loan, the loan application allegedly pressured and harassed him to demand loan repayment.

Police said Tejas could not handle the pressure that led him to take the extreme step on Tuesday night, as indicated in his suicide note.

“Father and mother, please forgive me. There is no way out for me. I could not pay the loan and so I decided to end my life. Thank you, bye.”

Incidentally, the Karnataka government on Tuesday said that action will be initiated against 42 loan apps that were indulging in harassing people.
