James Gunn posts a screenshot of the “Superman: Legacy” script as pre-production begins
LOS ANGELES, April 19 (IANS) Filmmaker James Gunn has announced that pre-production on “Superman: Legacy” has officially begun.
Sharing the news through his social media pages, the director posted a picture of the script he wrote, but it only showed the cover page.
“I am honored to be part of the legacy. And what better than #SupermanAnniversary Day to fully dive into early pre-production on #SupermanLegacy?” he wrote in the caption, adding, “Costumes, production design and more are now in the works.”
On Twitter, Gunn also engaged in a conversation with fans who wondered who gave him script feedback if, at the same time, he was the co-president of DC Studios. “Listening to constructive criticism is the lifeblood of any writer,” he answered the question, according to aceshowbiz.com.
“As president of DC Studios, I give the script to people I trust (like Chantal Nong or DCTomKingTK comics writer) and get their ideas on what works well and what could work better so I can improve the script,” he explains. “I always try to take notes that will actually make the movie better and debate the ones that I think won’t work.”
Jan continued, “It worked for me because I was fortunate in the partners I chose to work with – we’re all moving towards one thing: making the film better. And I can put myself aside and be open when I need to be persuasive when I need to be.”
“I know this isn’t the case for everyone (and it wasn’t always the case for me as a writer),” said the 56-year-old.
“Again, I’m lucky that way. But that’s just the way notes work, and I’m not going to suddenly stop taking them because I’m the head of the studio. #writing #SupermanLegacy.”
Gunn will also serve as director for “Superman: Legacy” based on the screenplay he co-wrote. The film marks the first project in the new DC Universe under the direction of Gunn and DC Studios co-president Peter Safran.
There’s still no official announcement on who will play Superman, but it’s been confirmed that Henry Cavill won’t be returning for the new movie as it deals with the early days of the character. The movie is expected to be released sometime in 2025.
