Jakub Moder must have done it with gusto. He watched the Brighton-Sheffield match in the Premier League from the bench. The coach had a good reason
English league. Jakub Moder was included in Brighton’s squad for a Premier League match for the first time since April 2022. However, in the 1-1 draw with Sheffield, the Pole did not leave the bench, as the media had previously announced.
As announced by coach Roberto de Zerbi, Jakub Moder was included in the match squad for the Brighton – Sheffield match. By the Italian’s decision, the Pole took his place among the reserves. He had been waiting exactly for this moment 1 year, 7 months and 10 days (589 days), i.e. from the moment he tore the ligaments in his knee and then underwent a very tedious rehabilitation – practically twice as long as usual for other players.
In Brighton they decided to introduce Modera gradually. That’s why he played his first matches for the second team in the Premier League 2. First, he ran for half an hour, then for 45 minutes, when he scored a goal.
Against Sheffield, already in the Premier League proper, the plan assumed that Moder would appear for a dozen or even several dozen minutes in the second half. Why didn’t it work out? The answer is obvious: because it was unexpected the meeting got out of control.
Simon Adingra scored for Brighton in the 6th minute to make it 1-0. However, disaster struck in the second half. The referee sent off Mahmoud Dahoud in the 69th minute. Immediately afterwards, the equalizing goal was scored, after Adam Webster’s own goal. It was necessary to save what we could, so Moder, not quite ready for such challenges, stayed on the bench. At the end of the match, Carlos Baleba and, above all, experienced defender Joel Veltman rose.
When will Moder return? It looks like it won’t be until the end of the month. Now there will be a break due to national team matches. Brighton’s next Premier League match will be against Nottingham on November 25.
