The WWDC23 conference took place on June 5, where Apple presented many new products. Among the most important and most anticipated announcements by fans, the next version of the software for Apple iPhone smartphones was presented – iOS 17. iOS 17 has already been officially announced and presented at the WWDC23 conference. Apple presented there all the new features that can be found in the system. These include several interesting improvements that fans of old-school devices have been waiting for for a long time:
- New contacts view – business cards will now become more colorful and colorful. You can fully personalize the contact view, which will now take up the entire screen – by choosing the photo, colors and fonts, and how we want to present the person. You can choose from a photo or a customized avatar. They will also be able to be sent via AirDrop, using a new method described in more detail below.
- AirDrop changes – the new NameDrop allows us to easily transfer business cards containing telephone numbers, e-mail addresses or photos by bringing the devices closer together. It will work the same way for Apple Watches. It is the sender who chooses what information to share with the recipient from his contact card. Moreover, if we move away from the user with whom we share photos and files, content will continue to be provided by Internet.
- New StandBy lock screen mode – the display will now be able to function as a home screen using Always On Display. At the presentation, it was presented primarily as a kind of night assistant for the bedside table. This will display information such as weather forecast, calendar, important notifications and other information from widgets.
- Changes to Siri – Apple’s virtual assistant will no longer have to be woken up with “Hey, Siri”. Now all you need is “Siri”. Unfortunately, there is still no information about whether it will receive Polish language support.
- FaceTime – FaceTime will handle audio and video messaging, which can leave a message to be picked up later if the person is currently unable to answer the call.
Apple is also adding a new, long-awaited by many fans app to iOS 17 called Journal (English Journal). It is an electronic journal that we can treat both as a notebook and a diary. Thanks to the use of machine learning, it is able to suggest photos, music and other media accompanying our memories appropriate to the situation.
Apple is also improving messaging iMessage, i.e. a communicator operating between devices manufactured by this company. Among the new items we will find:
- New search engine with precise filters – thanks to it, we can more easily find the information we are interested in from the past.
- Convenient location sharing in the form of a message – it will look similar to how it currently works in the messenger Messenger
- Live Voicemail – it is a kind of automatic “answering machine” that will display in real time on the phone screen the words said by the person recording themselves after the signal. The transcription will also be sent to our e-mail.
- Cosmetic changes – internal applications in Messages will be moved to one place and will disappear from the bar above the keyboard. Now it will be a flyout menu in the corner of the screen.
