Iga Świątek will play in WTA tournaments in Tokyo and Beijing
At Monday’s press conference, Świątek announced that she would fly to Tokyo on Tuesday, where she would take part in the WTA 500 tournament. This will be the Polish tennis player’s first start in this tournament. She previously played on the local courts during the 2021 Olympics when she was eliminated in the second round.
After the competition in the capital of Japan, it will be time to start in the capital of China – Beijing. Świątek has not played there yet, so she will have new experiences in her tennis career. – I think Tokyo and Beijing will be different tournaments than usual because I have never played there. […] It will definitely be demanding, but on the other hand I have the impression that the hardest part of the season in terms of pressure, expectations and intensity is already over, because we have just finished the Grand Slam tournaments. I’ll try to be more relaxed about it – said Świątek.
After the Asian travels, it will be time for the WTA Finals in Cancun, where the eight best tennis players of the current season will compete. Apart from Świątek, we will definitely see Aryna Sabalenka, Jelena Rybakina and Coco Gauff there. After this tournament, the Pole will still have to take part in the Billie Jean King Cup Finals, which will allow her to take a big step towards qualifying for next year’s Olympic Games.
