Global T20 Canada: Very excited to be part of the Mississauga Panthers, says Shoaib Malik
BRAMPTON, July 11 (IANS) The third edition of the Global T20 Canada is set to return on July 20, after a three-year hiatus.
Hosted at the CAA Center, here, this edition will feature six franchises. Making their notable tournament debut are the Mississauga Panthers. With former South Africa boss Lance Klusener appointed as head coach, the team is poised to make an indelible impression on fans and opponents alike.
The 16-member team is packed with quality players from around the world including Chris Gayle, Shoaib Malik and James Nesam. Also competing this year is the Mississauga Panthers Toronto Nationals, Brampton Wolves, Montreal Tigers and Vancouver Knights along with fellow freshman, Surrey Jaguars.
Former Pakistani all-rounder Shoaib Malik expressed his excitement about playing for the Panthers, saying, “I am so excited to be a part of the Mississauga Panthers, and I am looking forward to the atmosphere on the field and all the fans who will come out to support our team.”
Game legends from around the world also expressed their excitement to watch the highly competitive tournament unfold. Shivnarine Chanderpaul, one of the Caribbean’s finest left-handers, has joined Brian Lara as an ambassador for the competition. About his association, he said, “I am very excited to be a brand ambassador for the upcoming season of the Global T20. All six teams look amazing, and the event promises to be exciting.”
Shivnarine Chanderpaul also hailed the initiative as a platform for the game’s homegrown heroes, from Canada, to take on some of the world’s best T20 players and develop their skills. “We have some big names across all six teams like Chris Gayle, Harbhajan, Singh, Shahid Aridi and Shoaib Malik playing alongside some great players from Canada like Rizwan Cheema, Bargat Singh and Saad Bin Zafar.”
The Mississauga Panthers team has an enviable blend of experience and promise. Besides notable icons like Chris Gayle, Shoaib Malik and James Neesham, the band also includes promising youngsters like hard hitting, Azam Khan and killer Shahnawaz Dahani from Pakistan. Ethan Gibson emerges as one of the youngest players from Canada alongside Nikhil Dutta, Jaskaran Singh Puttar and Cecil Parvez to name a few.
