Elderly couple killed in Delhi

NEW DELHI, April 10 An elderly couple were found murdered in their house in Gokulpuri district of Delhi on Monday, a police official said, adding that the house was ransacked and money and jewelry also missing.

The deceased have been identified as Radhi Shyam Verma (72) and his wife Veena (68), residents of Bhagirathi Vihar.

Verma retired as the Deputy Principal of Delhi Government School, Karol Bagh.

The official said that the family has lived in this house for 38 years.

At 7.19 am on Monday, the police received a PCR call regarding a double murder in Bhagirathi Vihar, after which the station officer of Gokulpuri Police Station rushed to the site with a team.

“Verma and his wife Veena were found murdered inside their bedroom on the ground floor. The house was ransacked. The couple’s throats were slashed,” the official said.

The police said that the house itself is located on the ground and first floors and that the elderly couple’s son Ravi Ratan (38 years old) lives on the first floor with his family.

“During initial inquiry, it was found that the house was missing worth Rs 4.5 lakh and some jewellery. Possible mode of entry was through the iron back gate of the house. Verma had recently taken Rs 5 lakh advance money for selling the back of the house,” the official said. .

The son of the deceased was working as a guest teacher in Mustafaabad. However, he now runs a clothing and cosmetic store from Johripur district. He saw his parents around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday.”

The official said that police teams are scanning closed-circuit television cameras in the area to ascertain the crime sequence and identify the perpetrators.

“A case is being registered and the crime team is on the spot,” the official said, adding that further investigations are underway.
