Bharatiya Janata Party files nomination for Jharsuguda People
BHUBANESWAR, April 17 (IANS) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Tankadhar Tripathi on Monday filed his candidacy for the by-election of the Jarsuguda assembly constituency in Odisha.
Making a huge procession in Jharsuguda, Tripathy reached the returning officer’s office and submitted his nomination papers.
Several senior BJP leaders, including state unit chief Manmohan Samal, ex-president Samir Mohanty, Bargarh MP Suresh Pujari, and BJP chief Mohan Magi accompanied Tripathi during the presentation of his nomination papers.
After submitting his papers, Tripathi described the by-elections as a battle between common people and a corrupt government.
“I am a symbolic person. This is a fight of the people of Jarsuguda. This is a fight between the people and 24 years of corrupt government.
“Thousands of people joined the rally today, showing their anger towards a selfish government,” Tripathi said.
On the other hand, BJD Vice President Debbie Prasad Mishra targeted the BJP, triggering the killing of gangster Atiq Ahmed and his brother in Prayagraj in the presence of the police.
“If the BJP makes false claims about the elections only, we will also raise the law and order problem in the BJP-ruled state of Uttar Pradesh. Two people were killed in police presence in Prayagraj. They may be criminals, but the incident took place under police custody.
Congress candidate Tarun Pandey has already submitted his candidacy for the People, while BJD candidate Deepali Das, daughter of the murdered Napa Das, is set to present her candidacy on Tuesday.
Dibali had recently received the party ticket from Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at his residence in Bhubaneswar.
Voting in the by-elections will take place on May 10, while the results will be announced on May 13.
