Amy Virk plays the legendary Jeona Maurh in the upcoming Punjabi biopic

NEW DELHI, JULY 11 (IANS) Actor and singer Amy Virk, who has been seen portraying a colonial Punjabi villager in Mawarh, said the film and his character fan the flames of nationalism, portraying the disturbing political climate during the pre-partition era.

Set in pre-partition Punjab, the story tells the life story of Jeona Maurh (played by Ammy), who takes up a gun to avenge the death of his bandit brother, Kishna.

Gyuna is determined to demolish the exploitative land tax mafia, which works with Indian and British kings to impoverish the people, as well as Duggar, another thief who betrayed Kishna.

Speaking of Moreh, Amy said, “It is a thought-provoking story that depicts the journey of two brothers who become bandits in Punjab. It is a film that captures the strength and power of Punjabi cinema. The film is shot in picturesque locations across Punjab with soul-stirring background music.”

He added, “The portrayal of Jewna was not easy. The character and the film fan the flames of nationalism, depicting the disturbing political climate during the pre-partition era.”

‘Maurh’ explores the social and political landscape of the Punjab and its people during the British Raj, capturing their dreams, struggles and passions and keeping history buffs glued to the screen.

Director Jatinder Mohar said, “After Maurh, I would like to tackle the field of Punjabi films across geographies and cultures. ‘Maurh’ is an interesting novel that delves into the lives of Jeona and Kishna, who face the injustices propagated by British rulers and indigenous kings to protect their lands. The cast adds emotional depth. for the movie, which makes it worth watching.”

The film also stars Dev Kharoud, Vikramjeet Virk, Amiek Virk, Naiqra Kaur and Kuljinder Sidhu in pivotal roles. It will premiere on ZEE5 on July 21st.
