The phenomenon was first observed in 2022. The discovery was even more interesting because it is a double crater. Scientists from the University of Arizona looked into the astronomical sensation.
It turned out that the formation of the crater was related to “space debris”. In March 2022, an object was spotted heading towards the Moon. There are many indications that it was a fragment of the Chinese Long March 3C rocket, which carried the Change’e 5-T1 test probe into orbit in 2014.

Another hypothesis also indicates that a fragment of the Falcon 9 rocket is responsible for creating the crater. It will be difficult to make a decision because space agencies do not monitor their waste above a certain distance from Earth.
What scientists managed to determine for sure is that the Moon was hit by two objects of similar mass, heading perpendicularly towards it. Moreover, there must have been a payload on the rocket that fell on the lunar surface next to it – writes telepolis.pl.
The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs commented on the matter and denied a similar scenario. Scientists point out that comic waste should be subject to stricter control, because there will certainly be more and more space missions in the coming years.
