A man has been arrested in Hyderabad for allegedly installing a spy camera in a rented room
HYDERABAD, July 12 (IANS) Hyderabad Police has arrested a homeowner who installed a hidden video camera in a room he had rented to two young women.
The police found that the accused, Syed Salim, 45, connected the hidden camera to his computer and mobile phone.
A 20-year-old girl along with her brother and friend took the room for rent in Venkatagiri Hylam Colony in Yousufguda district near Jubilee Hills about a month ago.
Saleem and his family live on the first floor of the five-storey building.
Days ago, he installed a box in the rented room that he says is intended to control electricity fluctuations.
He had placed a hidden CCTV camera inside the box and linked it to his computer in his room and had also installed a digital video recorder (DVR).
On Monday evening, the tenant became suspicious when she discovered that the wire from the box was connected to the landlord’s room.
With the help of her brother, she searches the meter box and is shocked to find a hidden CCTV camera.
A complaint was filed with the Jubilee Hills Police Station on Tuesday.
The police launched an investigation and found that the homeowner had installed a secret video camera in the meter box and linked it to his computer through a DVR to record private videos of the tenants.
He also installed an app on his mobile phone that links the secret camera and also four other CCTV cameras installed in the house.
The authorities confiscated two DVRs, cameras, a measuring box, and other equipment.
Police have booked Saleem under Section 354C (voyeurism) and Section 509 (word, gesture or action intended to insult a woman’s modesty) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 67 (punishment for publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) of the Information Technology Act and arrested him on Tuesday night.
Jubilee Hills inspector Rajasekhar Reddy said they are conducting further investigations.
