6.2-magnitude earthquake hits Indonesia, no tsunami likely

JAKARTA, May 25 (IANS) The country’s meteorology, climatology and geophysics agency said a 6.2-magnitude earthquake hit the eastern Indonesian province of Maluku, but did not trigger a tsunami.
The meteorological agency said the quake occurred at 22:49 p.m. Jakarta time (1549 GMT) and had its epicenter 203 km northwest of Kepulawan Tanimbar district (Maluku Tenggara Barat) and at a depth of 221 km below the sea floor, the agency added on Wednesday. .
According to the New China News Agency (Xinhua) that the tremors caused by the quake is not likely to cause giant waves.
