HOUSTON, May 24 (IANS) Two people have been killed and seven others injured after a home under construction collapsed during a storm in Conroe, Texas, authorities say.
Conroe’s assistant fire chief, Mike Legends Jr., was quoted by Xinhua news agency as saying on Tuesday evening that two people had died at the scene.
The condition of the seven wounded was not known.
Legoudes said the house that collapsed was in the early stages of construction.
“Looks like they were working on the second floor, no sheetrock or anything like that yet,” he said.
Legends could not confirm whether the storm was directly responsible for the landslide in the town, 64 km north of Houston.
“We saw hail outside, it got really black, and it rained really hard, 10 to 15 minutes,” a local resident told CBS affiliate KHOU on Tuesday.
Then the rain kind of stopped. But around that time we could hear the sound of ambulances and fire engines.”
